I am totally inexperienced with Linux, but since your CPU is certainly supported, you may have to use an "anonymous" platform (app_info.xml entry) to tell Rosetta to load the current Linux client.

You might try looking in the Wiki for info, or hopefully a Linux guru will come along to help...

Hello,

Someone have an app_info.xml file for this machine, or at least the name of an appropiate client, then I write the app_info.xml file

Bill. What is the statistical likelyhood that a copy of the app_info.xml from a P4 machine running Linux would help? Happens to be red had fedora 4, if that makes any difference. The main problem is that it's a P4 and not a 32 bit AMD CPU.

this is what my amd reports for cpu type... "AuthenticAMD <LineBreak here>
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+" <> indicates formating...

Hello,
Am running Linux from the Live Distro for 6 Months.Fedora am not sure of.
Hope you are not in Root ,that could be a problem, but, also,I have been unable
to get work either.Rosey was down for a bit today so that could be part and parcel
of the problem with the "rejection"

Good Luck
Boinc Wiki does have great info for Linux users, all the way from installing
all these new Boincs,LOL am at 5.??? I forget.
Sincerly

I would guess that the app name is the same - worst case is try it and the results start erroring out instead of not being downloaded... I think you can just paste the file in here, and algon can take it from there. I get the impression he's comfortable at the bit-twiddling level.

OK, will take care of it tomorrow when I hit the office. Can't get at the box right now.

Sure, until there comes a real 64Bit version

Hi,

you can

a) simply use a 32 Bit binary of BOINC
b) read this:
http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Found_app_info.xml%3B_using_anonymous_platform
http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=BOINC_Anonymous_Platform_Mechanism

Ugh - now I'm confused. Nowhere in the BOINC directory hierarchy is there a file whose name matches 'app*'.

Help?

The app_info.xml is not automaticly generated or downloaded, it's a selfmade file for selfmade applications.

All we need is the name of the application file. On Windows it's rosetta_4.80_windows_intelx86.exe

Then the app_info.xml file just tells BOINC "instead of rosetta_xx_linux_x86_64, use the standard Linux app".

The instructions are in the "anonymous platform" link that Desti gave.

Unlikely anytime soon. Primarily as it will give little to no benefit.

And for some applications it has been found that the 64-bit compiled science applications cannot be used with the 32-bit in that they have sufficient differences in the result calculations that the validation of work is very problimatical.

rosetta_4.79_i686-pc-linux-gnu

That's the one file in the projects/*rosetta* directory that has execute bits set on it.

Hope this helps

unfortunately not, rosetta has by now downloaded some files, but no which look like the executable, I'll check in on the log-file, but it seems strange

a walkthrough the log file reveals that it's true that I don't have the "rosetta_4.79_i686-pc-linux-gnu" executable, and a little thought about it tells me, thats true. ......by using the the app_info.xml file, I really tells the project, that I dont want their executable, BECOUSE I HAVE MY OWN, but I do not have "rosetta_4.79_i686-pc-linux-gnu".

any pointer, where I can't find it ?

Easiest would be for dgnuff or some other Linux user to email you a copy...

If you don't want to put your email addresses on the board (good idea...) you can email me at (from my screenname here) firstname dot lastname at comcast dot net. Any Linux user who emails me the executable, I'll forward it on to algon as soon as I have an email address to do so.

thanks, I'll save you the trouble, so I made a mail-id, which will be open for at few days, and then closed again (and there are almost no other or important users on the domain)
so if you have "rosetta_4.79_i686-pc-linux-gnu" please send a copy to:
"linuxclient" at "solengen" dot "dk", and I'll start folding proteins
