hey people, currently i have a core 2 duo e4300 at 3.6ghz running rosetta, I also have an x1950xtx gfx card and I dont think its working with rosetta..

is this card compatible? how do i get it working?!

edit: if not, what graphics cards will be able to work with rosetta?

Rosetta does not support GPUs at the moment.
BOINC will keep asking for GPU WUs tho, so just ignore it.

Hi petey

There isn't currently (or in the near future) a GPU client for R@H - if you want to know why, I recommend this thread as a starting point. BOINC asks for work but will never get any.

Mod.Sense, could we get a sticky on the subject, possibly in place of the "Problems with Rosetta version 5.98" sticky which I think is now obsolete?

well in that case i do have a mac book pro with a 2.4ghz core 2 duo! only problem is, i dont have wireless internet, my pc is directly connected..

so if i were to install R@H on my mac aswell, would it work not being connected to the net?

and I assume i can link the work done with my existing pc, so all the points etc show as one result (if that makes sense?)

I will start, other can finish and fix anything I mess up...1st you only need to be connected to the net when you are actually up or downloading workunits, so a wireless connection is not needed. 2nd if you use the same account info to sign up each pc they will all appear under your account, click on the blue name of dcdc and then under computers click view and you will see all of his pc's. If I click on your name I see you have one pc connected, if you click on my name though you will not see any pc's connected right now.

Exactly as Mikey says - BOINC downloads a cache of tasks to work on and will upload results and download new tasks for the queue whenever there's an internet connection available, although you might find it wants the connection to be available a bit more than usual for the first few hours after installation.

On a laptop BOINC will, by default, only run when on AC power (which I don't recommend you change as it'll run your battery down quite quickly).

If you find it gets too hot when running Rosetta then you can change the preferences in BOINC to run on one core (In Windows it's BOINC Manager > Advanced > Preferences > On multiprocessor systems use at most 50% of the processors). That will result in it doing around 40% less work (one CPU core instead of two, but that core then has less competition for the CPU's L2 cache).

Does it at least have an internet connection through that direct connect? If so, I've been using that method for over a year now.

Just make sure you connect it to Rosetta@home using the account you have already started for your existing PC. It will assign a new computer number, then let it crunch for the same account. It will NOT share the same workunits, though.

If you want to let your new computer use a wireless connection, you'll have to install a wireless router and enable its wireless function.
