Well Rosie seems to be back or at least sending files, but then I got this message when I tried to update.

1/12/2011 11:13:30 AM rosetta@home Message from server: No work sent
1/12/2011 11:13:30 AM rosetta@home Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)
1/12/2011 11:13:30 AM rosetta@home Message from server: No disk space (YOU must free 314.2 MB before BOINC gets space). Review preferences for maximum disk space used.

Checked my E drive and I have 12.5GB open. This is where I store BOINC. Even if it wanted C drive there is 8GB open there. I think Rosie is confused about file size or else there are REALLY GIANT files being sent out.

Preferences set for using 10GB of drive space at most and use at most (first 50% and then bumped it up to 75%) of total drive space. Have Leave at least 0 GB of disk space free.

Anyone got an idea as to what is up with this?

It seems to be related to the system problems with that SAN server.
Case closed.

I have the same problem. I changed preferences few times in order to increase disc space available for Rosetta but I am continuously getting this error! Did you manage to get it fixed on your side?

Is Rosetta only a small percentage of your resource shares? (see projects tab in BOINC Manager).

No Mod,

Its the primary. And I cleared the D: drive of all the files that were there and moved boinc to that location. There is 33.9 GIGAbytes of space there for use after BOINC takes 5.10GB for storage of Ralph and Einstein and Milkyway.
Then it claims it needs an additional 3.14MB of space????
That's just insane!

I'll wait until Rosie is back to life and then try again.
For now while its down I am suspending it.

In my case Rosetta takes 90% of resources ... Situation is still the same. No improvement.

Ok this is getting stupid.
First Rosie says no work for 48hrs then I check again 6hrs after the last attempt and get the following:

1/16/2011 12:27:30 AM rosetta@home Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
1/16/2011 12:27:30 AM rosetta@home Message from server: No work sent
1/16/2011 12:27:30 AM rosetta@home Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)
1/16/2011 12:27:30 AM rosetta@home Message from server: No disk space (YOU must free 334.4 MB before BOINC gets space). Review preferences for maximum disk space used.

Now why in the world does it need another 334MB of space on a 33.9GB drive??????
I would guess the server system is still messed up.

Currently RAC is 317 and dropping rapidly.
And with no NEW news from KEL on the home page I am beginning to wonder whats going on!!! We need some OFFICIAL NEWS NOW!

One thing you may want to try is setting your disk space preferences on another project then forcing an update to that project. If Rosetta has somehow got your settings jumbled then getting them refreshed on another project may slap some sense into Rosetta.

It is probably a long shot, but I have seen it fix some different preferences bugs last year.

If BOINC messages were a little bit clearer then I could have solved this problem earlier. It was the local settings that were screwing with things. I had a restriction of 2.5GB which HAD been working fine before the crash. I opened that up to full disk space and finally got some work. I will reduce it later. It takes a rocket scientist and a psychic to figure out what the damn thing is trying to say.

Someone at Milkyway is having this problem. They are also using 6.10.58, could be that.

read somewhere that BOINC or the project likes to reserve a bit more space than it really uses.

tell the milkway person to have a look at the disk usage graph in BOINC.
then look at the total BOINC usage on the drive and increase the total disk space in BOINC manager to say .5GB above the total shown in the pie chart.

this is what I did and everything works fine now.

I'm getting an odd disk space error too.

used by BOINC 13.7GB
free, not available 12GB
Used, other progs 12GB

15/02/2011 10:56:51 rosetta@home Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
15/02/2011 10:56:51 rosetta@home Requesting new tasks
15/02/2011 10:56:52 rosetta@home Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
15/02/2011 10:56:52 rosetta@home Message from server: No work sent
15/02/2011 10:56:52 rosetta@home Message from server: There was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated.
15/02/2011 10:56:52 rosetta@home Message from server: An additional 25707 MB is needed.

Rosie wants another 27GB?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
It's not running on the 13GB BOINC has already snatched!

I run LHC (that does does no work) and SETI. I've 2 other identical machines without this problem.

Prefs across all 3 projects are use 1GB, leave .5GB and use at most 25% of disk space.

Have uninstalled and used newest version - any other thoughts?

Is anyone else having such problems? It almost sounds like someone slipped a decimal when creating a batch of work units.

My only advice would be to reduce the number of days of work your machine keeps on-hand (preferences -> network settings). That will mean it tries getting fewer tasks, and therefore will try to reserve less space to run them.

Yep, 1st thing I checked - I've been on the default .25 days for a while now. (using lowly 1.8 xeons :( )

I had this happen the other day. My disk space went under the "Leave atleast xx free" amount. I lowered the amount and I've been fine since.

How many BOINC projects are you running on that machine? I've seen signs that BOINC divides the disk space it is allowed to use equally among all the projects you have enabled, before deciding how much disk space to allow for each workunit.
