Hello,

I'm new to this project, and I would like to thoroughly understand its working, please bear with me :)

1. What are the units in which computer processing ability is measured in this project? I can hear people mentioning credits and FLOPS. How do I benchmark computer processing ability in those units most easily?

2. Where can I look to see the relative processing ability of different classes of computers to understand the contribution of i.e Core Quad or Pentium III?

3. Can I precisely control the client i.e. demand that it start and perform exactly N work units, or work for M hours?

You can define exactly the hours of the day, and days of the week you would like to allow BOINC to use your computer. You can also define a percentage of CPU, memory, and swap space resources BOINC is allowed to use. Most all BOINC projects quantify work done in terms of credits which roughly translate to FLOPs. But you don't have to run a test or do any benchmarking, BOINC takes care of these things for you.
