I shut down my computer for 5 days when I went on vacation. Upon my return, I have been unable to download new work from Rosetta (Seti still works fine) for the last 2 weeks now. Unless I can get some help here to solve this, I will have to abandon Rosetta and I don't want to. I have reset the project but it made no difference. I keep getting the following message:

Message from server: No work sent
Message from server: (Won't finish in time) Computer on 88.4% of time, Boinc on 86.5% of that

I don't know what it means. Its rubbish anyway. My settings are exactly the same as they've been the past few years while finishing over 577,000 work units. Anyone from Rosetta there? Help!

I can't get a vacation or new work either.

I have been unable to get new work for a few days now. One system has no task running at all. Still cannot get any work units.

We have a problem.

Yes David, if you have a look around, you aren't the only one. I myself have been trying to force a new WU to download to just test that the signature issue is resolved, and have been unable to get any tasks assigned.

My other projects are happy to use the lull. I suggest you add ("attach") another project of your choice and change it's resource share to something smaller. Even if you only allocate 1% to a project, BOINC will work on it if it has nothing else to do.

Once work does become available, it can help if you change your preferences to keep more days of work on hand. That is another way to assure you have work to crunch on even if there are short term problems with the servers.

Most projects will not have work 365 days a year. Rosetta comes very close and we're all so accustomed to having things run smoothly that we sometimes forget.

Hello Mod.Sense,

Today I was able to download a 1.86 WU on a computer.
The message from BOINC was however:
27-7-2009 18:55:00|rosetta@home|[error] Signature verification failed for minirosetta_database_rev31588.zip
27-7-2009 18:55:00|rosetta@home|[error] Check-sum or signature error for minirosetta_database_rev31588.zip
Time zone: UTC +2 hours.

Checked the md5 check-sums of the minirosetta_database_rev31588.zip:
July 26: md5: 46b5d9302d65782d7d5815301703cc39
July 27: md5: 46b5d9302d65782d7d5815301703cc39

Thanks for your support,
Path7.

When you shut down your computer for an extended period BOINC's recalculation of the percentage of time the computer is running can lead to legitimate "won't finish in time" messages. Your computer, however, might have been bitten by a BOINC bug. Posts at the BOINC forums and other project forums have revealed that there is a known bug in BOINC 6.6.36 which results in this message. The best explanation I've seen so far is by Bikeman as quoted by Richard Haselgrove in this post on the Einstein@home forums. As he and others here in this rosetta thread suggest your best option might be to downgrade to an earlier BOINC version. The BOINC developers are currently testing a fix so if you are able to make the commitment you could help them by signing up as a alpha tester. Alternatively, you could just wait it out, keeping an eye on the BOINC site for a new official version which fixes this bug. Whatever you (and anyone else reading along) decides please don't blame Rosetta as this particular problem isn't in Rosetta's power to solve and it is just coincidence that it is occurring alongside some Rosetta specific problems. Just to reiterate, this bug is related to the "won't finish in time" messages David is getting, not any of the other difficulties other folks may currently be having with Rosetta.

Thanks for the insight. I'll try a downgrade.
