What causes this? And how can I stop it? One PC seems to have quite few of these, and it has completed a lot of work for no credit value, plus what happens to the data and lack of results is it done again?

Hard to say without specifics. Can you point us to the host you are having the trouble with?

When a task has an error, another tasks is generated under the same "work unit" and it goes out to someone else. That helps get some feel for whether there is a problem with the task, or with the specific host.

So, often times the second task will complete normally and return results. But otherwise, the Monte Carlo approach used is basically trying to run several thousand models against the same protein. And these are then searched for the best energy levels found overall. So a few models missing here and there out of the thousands done are not specifically missed. If they happened to produce an even better result, that would be unfortuante. But mainly it is a numbers game. If the end of a run nears, and many of the results have not been returned, the Project scientists can create additional tasks for that run and get more results.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. It answers my question as top the effect on the data. As long as it does not create corruption and or holes in the data I am happy. thanks again. Eric

Sounds like an authority problem. Did you install BOINC under the same Windows user that is running it?

Looks like you have now reported a couple of successful completions. Were you able to resolve the problem?

I run and install everything under admin. The problem was with the new version of BOINIC ( I switched back to 6.4.7 ) and the problem went away.
