What are credits!? What do they do!? Why do we have them!? Why would anyone want send a "cheated" report to get more credits!? G'Day Randall, In order to give incentive to get people to join projects and help process the work the projects are trying to do, a point system was created. These points were called "cobblestones", after a Mr Cobb who works on the Seti project. They are also commonly called 'credits'. The cobblestones/credits accumulate as you return valid work units to the project. This then enables you to see how you are going against other participants. You can check out the various Stat sites to see how you rank against all of Boinc projects, just the projects you participate in and even how your computer ranks against others or other people with the same number of computers as yourself. Anyone who modifies programmes to gain extra credits is only doing it to gain advantage over others and get ranked higher. This is getting slowly stamped out with fixed credits from the projects. This I believe mostly answers your question. Don't worry I have seen this question posted many times on nearly all forum message boards, sometimes more than once on the same message board. |
