I've been running Boinc with Seti@Home and Rosetta for some time now on a number of PCs with generally no issues. However today I have noticed that I am currently running 5 Boinc applications on my Quad core at the same time. A "net stop boinc" and a "net start boinc" fixed it earlier but I have had to do it again. Boinc Manager tells me that one of the mini-rosetta tasks is "Waiting to run" although it is still consuming CPU cycles and making slower progress. I.e. instead of 4 tasks at 24-25% i have 5 tasks - 3 at 24-25%CPU and 2 at 10-12% each. I'm running boinc 5.10.30 and mini-rosetta 1.34. Anybody else seen the same behaviour? Thanks |

I have the same problem. Rosetta WU continues to run even though Boinc Manager shows "waiting to run" for Rosetta WU and is currently running other project's WUs. Setting Rosetta to No New Tasks and aborting Rosetta WU still leaves Rosetta running in Task Manager. I had to manually kill the process to free up CPU. Boinc 6.2.18, Vista 64bit. |

It happens (rarely) with some projects' tasks. If you don't mind, you can let the task run, it will usually finish crunching at some later point. By killing it you are risking loosing the whole crunched work, but it depends. With restarting the client you're on the safer side. (If the task remains running much more than 30 seconds after stopping the client, then yes, you could have safely killed it :-) Peter |
