When I start BOINC Manager, message appears lower right "connecting to localhost" After about a minute "BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client"

The computer this is happening on had been running just fine for a long time. Nothing has been changed. All of the work units it had been running finished and I cam unable to reconnect to get more.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC. I have shut down the computer and restarted. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

What OS are you running?
assuming windows, have you set BOINC to run as a service?
if so try stopping the service through Start > Run > services.msc > BOINC > Stop Service

then try running boincmgr.exe from the boinc folder and post back if that works.

Ran services.msc. BOINC is not even listed in the list of services for the computer that is having the problem. I checked services for the computer that it IS running on, and it's not listed there either.

in that case BOINC must be starting up through the startup folder in the start menu...
There isn't more than one copy of boinc in the startup folder is there?

any other ideas anyone?
