I love the way the chains in Rosetta look, but I would like them to display in higher resolution!
(I have a massive screen and a high spec system.)

The screensaver mentions something about being "low resolution". But I can't find a way of altering to "high res". Am I missing something?
Hope you can help!

If you click on "participants" at the top of this page, it'll take you to "your account". click the link "rosetta@home preferences", then you can play with the graphics settings there to see if you can make it appear satisfactorially to you. The settings will update on your machine from those "web based" settings after it calls home for new work, to report work, or if you do a "project update" (go to "projects" tab on your boinc manager, highlight "rosetta" in the right hand box, then click "update" in the left column). I don't know of a "hi/lo res" setting.

good luck

Thanks Tony - I hadn't realised those settings existed! I increased all graphics related settings to max - I'll report back on the outcome!

Do you have a separate graphics card, or are you using one built into the system board?

Looking a my Rosette graphics, it does not display 'Low resolution' anywhere on it. I have all the account graphic settings set to default. When I just tried starting the graphics, Rosette kicked my video card into high gear; like what happens when I do gaming.

I'd wager that the "low resolution" you are referring to has to do with the ab initio search, where the proteins are modeled as a highly simplified structure. This simplification allows a wide variety of protein conformations to be tested with fewer computations. The other type of search Rosetta uses is the full relax or high resolution search where the protein is modeled with much more complexity, which helps to pin down a more precise prediction for the protein.

In that sense the resolution only has to do with Rosetta's internal algorithms for computation and nothing to do with the screensaver graphics resolution.

Quick newbie question: do the graphics influence the computation, that is, the results?

I don`t think so, but I`d rather ask and be sure. =)
Thanks

Only in that it needs memory to run, and that might slow down your computations of the real work by some small percentage (depending on video card/integrated graphics, amount of ram, age of machine, etc etc). Some users don't use the screensaver or look at the graphic to increase the amount of work done, but I don't think it's to any great effect.

Thank you =)
I generally keep the graphics off anyway, so... What really matters is the work being done ;D
