hiya, does rosetta utilize my gpu ? i have an atx x1900 something or other with 512 mb vram. does that have an influence on the speed of processing my wu ? just curious, ken |

hiya, not really. rosetta does not compute on your gpu, but uses it to display the screensaver. so a good graphics card reduces the load on the cpu to display the graphics (thus frees space to actually crunch the data), but otherwhise your card does not have an impact. |

hiya, Rosetta does not utilize your GPU. But there is another very similiar project called folding@home which does. It is not BOINC based but is very popular and as far as I know has the biggest TFLOP count of all distributed computing projects thanks to it's utilization of GPU's and the PS3's Cell CPU. Check out this site (http://folding.stanford.edu/) and read the literature. If it tickles your fancy then I'm sure they'd be glad to see your GPU add it's 20x CPU power to thier project. Download the GPU Client, because you have an ATI 1900 something it should work fine. ;) |
