Does it run the x86 rosetta app? Or does it only run x64 science apps? |

Does it run the x86 rosetta app? Or does it only run x64 science apps? AFAIK, it will only request a 64 bit app. Rom has written the code for the core client to fall back to requesting the 32 bit science app when no 64 bit one is available. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/ticket/80 But it appears there is still work to do client side as well as sever side. It is listed as a 5.10.x milestone though. So perhaps on the next major release. Does it run the x86 rosetta app? Or does it only run x64 science apps? To answer the question I don't know, I've not followed the 5.9 development that much. Most seems to be what was added but quickly removed in the 5.8 (the improved advanced GUI & local preference setting. BitTorrent support server side was recently added afaik, but no client side support has been developed, it's still very early days in 5.9/10 development. Kathryn, if it's a 5.10 milestone then it will be added in 5.9 (the development branch for 5.10). I'm also not sure if the BOINC devs backed down on their naming of the x86 client request thingy, but it breaks all projects that have 64bit applications and so the project needs to alter it (you know x86-intel, x86_64 part) I also do not have a Win64 OS to test it on yet. Kathryn, if it's a 5.10 milestone then it will be added in 5.9 (the development branch for 5.10). I should have said the next stable release. We're testing 5.9.4 right now. It's not currently in it. So it'll appear with the 5.10.x release to the general public. Unless that is, they decide to push it back to a 5.12.x milestone. Next time I'll actually try to say what I mean, LOL. Measured integer speed 4012.34 million ops/sec (win xp ) Measured integer speed 5717.00 million ops/sec (win XP x64) I can post the error message from the BOINC client in a sec... just running between the PCs :D |

2007-04-25 18:53:01 [rosetta@home] Message from server: platform 'windows_x86_64' not found There are a handful of projects that have either the true 64 bit app or rename the 32 bit one. I don't know about Rosetta. The other problem is the Berkeley naming string (windows_x86_64) is different from what the project's are using (can't remember what it is, but it has amd in it). Because 5.9.4 is still an early alpha release for 5.10.x and buggy, I'd recommend sticking with the stable 5.8.x release. If you do run it, the usual cautions stand and please be willing to log bugs into Trac or to the alpha mailing list (both require registration). I definately recommend waiting for the 5.9.5 version before trying it on win 64. There is a serious bug in 5.9.4 were it will not send the proper alternate platform. This means you will not be able to get work from any project that does not have a 64 bit app. Currently the only projects I know of that have 64 bit apps are pirates, nanohive, and riesel sieve, only the seive is consistantly handing out work right now. Once 5.9.5 comes out you should be able to get work from any project that has updated their server code since 4/19/7. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

Just to note 5.9.5 is now in testing. Howdy Folks, This release includes a bunch of fixes around the various setup issues. This release should support the alternate platform mechanism that has been built into the latest server releases. Basically is the project doesn’t support the x64 platform it should download the 32-bit x86 client instead. I have disabled the x64 uppercase on alpha so we can test it out. Tomorrow or the day after we’ll re-enable the 64-bit uppercase. In order to uninstall the 5.9.4 build you’ll probably need to re-download the MSI file since it wasn’t cached for future use. You can find it here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.9.4_windows_intelx86.msi http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.9.4_windows_x86_64.msi The last release was the first version of BOINC we released that was built with VS 2005, as such the benchmark scores were quite a bit different than what you would previously been used too. See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/ticket/122 for more details. I’m interested in whether this build closes the gap in benchmark scores between 2003 and 2005. Please log the test results to http://issac.ssl.berkeley.edu/alpha and log any bugs to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac. ----- Rom Here is a list of changes: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/milestone/5.10 It does of course require Rosetta to update their server side to see if the 64bit drops back to 32bit. Though as it's still in testing it's probably subject to change. Team mauisun.org |

Yep, however there was a bug in the server code. So the projects need to update to the 4/30/7 head for it to work. The 5.9.5 client seems to be working properly. The only project that has updated so far is BOINC alpha. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

i think it will download anything it is offered, problem is there is no platform setup on rosetta. The projects need to support the standard platform designation of "windows_x86_64" and not "windows_amd64" or whatever they're supporting now. |

i think it will download anything it is offered, problem is there is no platform setup on rosetta. true but that's not the problem here. Rosetta@home have not released a compatible 64bit client, though the will be using hte boinc x86_64 when they bring the '64bit compatible' one over to here that is in testing at ralph@home. Note it's just the 32bit one made to look to the client like a 64bit one. Both linux and windows are being tested. Team mauisun.org |

heh, but it is "compatible". just add the platform and tell it to run the 32 bit apps, done. then add true 64 bit app or not. |

i think it will download anything it is offered, problem is there is no platform setup on rosetta. That should be an application, Not a Client, As Boinc is the Client. |
