Might be off-topic, however, I wonder if anyone observed the same strange side-effects.

I run Debian/Linux, BOINC 5.4.9, Mozilla Firefox and the new Flash Player 9 beta from Macromedia/Adobe. When science-applications are running within BOINC and when I open a flash-splattered webpage inside Firefox, the Browser locks up. Completly. It took me quite a while to figure out that when I start the BOINC-manager the lockup vanishes for a second or so, but then locks up again. If I stop all science-apps the browser suddenly works fine and all those pesky flashy things start working until I resume computation.

First I tought that this is a load-related issue and that Flash might need lots of CPU-time, but other types of load (means: other CPU-intense applications) do not provoke this behaviour.

This did not happen with the old version of the Flash Player 7 (?).

I haven't investigated too much yet, I just wanted to ask if other Linux-users observed the same behaviour. Since the problem started with FP9, I'd blame Adobe for this, but there must be some kind of side-effect which only relates to BOINC. I just want to know why those two totally different applications which don't share any resources except CPU and memory don't work together (means they're not sharing the sound-board or use dodgy IPC-/CORBA-communication).

Ideas, anyone?

Merry belated christmas, happy new year,
Alex.
