I just installed linux and get copy of boinc. On the main page says that current version of rosetta is 5.36. So somebody tell me why my Boinc download and use rosetta 5.34 version? WU is from FRA_t362_NOCST........ Thanks |

They just switched to 5.36. There's still 5.34 wus being issued apparently. It's kind of like a bubble gum vending machine, just because you poured in a bunch of new blue ones the other colors are still at the bottom being dispensed. |

Does it automatically update? Mine was 5.34, but I just checked the results on my last completed project, and it says I'm using 5.36..... |

Maybe I'm just a version geek, but it's fun to see the software improve and expand so rapidly right before my eyes. Keep up the good work, Dr. Baker & team! |

Maybe I'm just a version geek, but it's fun to see the software improve and expand so rapidly right before my eyes. That is one of the things (and main things) we are doing at Rosetta@home. We are testing the application and methodology and the results we produce see if there are improvments or if it's quicker. Of course a lot of the new investigation is in the docking part that was added recently (which unfortunatly also brought about all the recent crashing) Team mauisun.org |

Does it automatically update? Mine was 5.34, but I just checked the results on my last completed project, and it says I'm using 5.36..... and in principle can also backdate - eg if you ran a few 5.36 tasks, and were then issued a task that specifically wanted 5.34 it would download the old app for you (if it was not already there) - this happens to newcomers (like Pepi) and to others who have reset their client. Once the server knows 5.34 is dead, the server will tell the client to delete it. Also please note, at present the client (the BOINC part of the software) does not auto-update, only the app does this (ie the project specific part). River~~ |

On my other machine I have Windows Boinc. Right now I get new work (after few days of pause) and got new Rosetta 5.36 with result FRA_t369. So I dont think that "specifically wanted 5.34 it would download the old app for you" is reason. Under 5.34 in Linux you cannot see graphics, but I must say, Linux BIONC (in all project I know) give less credits then Windows BOINC on same machine, and BIONC under Linux give half od benchmarks that Windows do. Why? I sow many pepole on this forums tell the same thing. So fix it. |

On my other machine I have Windows Boinc. Right now I get new work (after few days of pause) and got new Rosetta 5.36 with result FRA_t369.It could be. There are old FRA_* wu in the database which want the old app, and newer ones which want the latest app. If you look at the result on the website, look at the date the task was created, not the date it was issued. ... Linux BIONC (in all project I know) give less credits then Windows BOINC on same machine, and BIONC under Linux give half od benchmarks that Windows do. This project gives credit based on the work done, ie the number of so called decoys run, with different types of decoy having different amounts of credit. That means if the same work is done on two machines, both will get exactly the same credit. Whether it takes different times to get that credit is not relevant -- the work is worth exactly the same to the project. The FRA_ work is an exception to this, for technical reasons I believe they still award credit on the time and benchmark basis. Overall, I would respectfully say that this project is at least trying to work on that issue. The changes have not been popular with everyone, and are welcomed by others. There is a long debate in another thread and if you have more to say on the credit system, you are welcome to join that debate. If you want to take the Linux credit issue further, which is a different point again, please start a new thread as that debate really does not belong here either. And by the way - look at my machines - I have more linux boxes than windoze, so I have every reason to be sympathetic, just not in this debuging thread please :) River~~ |
