Hello!

I work for a top50 fortune500 company. I am working with a global team to deploy Rosetta@home on our lab servers wordwide to put potentially 100's of high-specced servers to start number crunching.

Our lab admins have some concerns regarding man-in-the-middle attacks, and I was wondering if you could provide some guidance on setting up BOINC with rosetta@home on a secure HTTPS connection.

I was unable to find any log entries to show what ports are being utilized, and I was wondering if you had more in-depth details on the application itself.

Initially I was looking at folding@home, but it uses exclusively HTTP traffic on port 80 and 8080.

Appreciate if you could assist us on this matter so that we can get some significant power on this project.

Cheers,
Martin

I don't think this project uses HTTPS for the communication.
You can go to the actual BOINC forums and check there.

I tried looking at all_projects_list.xml in PROGRAM DATA/BOINC on my windows pc and it looks like a few project use it.
You can search for something like "url>https:" There is a listing for <url> and <web_url>. I am not sure what one is relevant.

The Project Team is considering serving the file downloads used by host machines with HTTPS. This involves changes to how the WUs are created, and will take some time to roll out. But goes a long way to addressing the concern.

Ralph is currently testing the changes required to use HTTPS connections for all downloaded data, and signed executables.
