What is the correct procedure to exit the program? I tried suspending the tasks yesterday and that seems to result in a lot of errors. I assumed that when there are less tasks, the processing power is distributed evenly over the running tasks but that doesn't seem to be the case. (I wanted them to finish before I restart my PC). |

Try to just let the BOINC Manager handle things for you. The BOINC Manager is sort of a viewer of the active work. You can close the viewer and not interrupt the work. Sort of the way you can turn off your monitor, but the machine is still active. Reboot the machine when you need to. The work units will resume at the point of their last state save. As a continuation of this question - when I close the BOINC manager, Rosetta continues to run even though SETI never did under such circumstances. How do I get the darned thing to stop apart from switching off the machine? It's making my laptop heat up too much and the fans can't take it even at 25% CPU. |

"close" of BOINC Manager just closes the GUI you use to see what is running. "exit" of BOINC Manager ends the program and all of the tasks it is running. This is true for all BOINC projects. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Yes, that's what I thought I was doing - File / Exit BOINC Manager rather than close window... I only installed on this machine last week when my old one stopped getting charged up from the mains, and let it do the standard install. Is there a clever advanced bit that I should have done? (I also noticed that this question was raised in 2012 when someone suggested writing a .BAT file to take care of it!!! ) |

After exiting BOINC I have to go into Task Manager and individually close all the Rosetta-4-20....exe instances. It is rather strange. SETI didn't behave like this. |

Advanced view > Options > Other options > Enable Manager exit dialog Then when you exit the manager you will have the choice also to stop running tasks. |
