Hi
I have been running Einstein@home and also want to run others; for example: Rosetta@home. How do I switch from one program to the other? Do I need a separate Boinc download?

BOINC manager controls all of the projects. And so, no, you don't need another BOINC. You just go to "projects" on the pulldown menu, and select "attach to project" and enter the URL and ID info for the other project.

Look around a little first. Adding another project will divide your machine's resource share between the two projects. By default they would get a 50/50 split of the machine's time. And so if you've altered your general setting for "Connect to network about every... days", you might already have several days of work ready to perform. In such a case, I'd go to the projects tab and select "no new work" and then wait until you've got less than a day of work left, THEN add the new project, then "allow new work" again.

So, once you've got both projects, BOINC will handle switching back and forth for you. If you wish to discontinue your work for Einstein, the recommended method would be to select the "no new work" for Einstein, work through any remaining work units, get them all reported and update the project so they are removed from your work unit list, then detach from Einstein. This is less disruptive to Einstein, because you get all the work units done before the deadline and THEN drop out.

If you intend to add several projects, check your general preferences, and lower that "connect to network every ... days" setting, and work down any existing workunits before adding each new project. This avoids getting, for example 3 days of work, then adding another 2 projects, and NOW that project only has a 33% share, and so what it originally thought would take 3 days, now will take 9!

BOINC will balance all of the projects for you, and sometimes will yield a little to a project with looming deadlines. The work units will be processed more effciently if you can leave the applications in memory.

Before attaching your system, please take a few min to look at the system requirements linked from the Rosetta@Home home page, and the FAQs linked from My signature below. In particular take a moment to get an understanding of the Rosetta "Time" setting for you preferences.
